Cheap stable mats come in many forms, but it can be very difficult to spot differences in quality. We all want value for money and this doesn’t always mean cheapest. There’s no doubt EVA foam stable mats are cheaper to produce but many don’t poses the quality to last beyond 1 or2 seasons of wear. Traditional solid rubber stable mats however, whilst more expensive, can last 5 seasons or more in the right conditions and with the right care. Better Environment

There’s no denying the fact EVA foam stable mats are derived from plastics and can contain a mix of chemicals. This can make them less desirable when considering the environment. Solid rubber stable mats can contain a good percentage of recycled materials, often old car tyres, reducing waste and making them more environmentally friendly. So, whilst harder to produce, rubber stable mats proved better for the environment in the long run.

Easy Handling

One of the main reasons for the increase in popularity of EVA foam stable mats are their lightweight construction. They can be installed and lifted easily by one person, making them a good solution for self fitting DIY jobs and cleaning. However, this can also be their downfall as they are prone to expansion/contraction in changing conditions. Solid rubber stable mats can be extremely heavy, especially at 1m square in size and 18mm thickness. However, smaller 50cm tiles are more manageable, easier to lift and clean.

Improved Durability

EVA foam in it’s basic form is soft and easily manipulated. Even when reinforced with an elastic type material called Polyethylene (PE), which is the same material used in plastic bags, they can be prone to tearing and splitting if not properly maintained. Solid rubber stable mats are a different animal altogether. There’s not much they can’t handle, from the largest horses to machinery and farm vehicles, rubber floor tiles are extremely durable.
